Paris Cake with Tour Eiffel Topper


Early this summer, I made a Paris-themed cake for a really lovely person, on the occasion of her turning 50. Having been to Paris a number of times, and spending some time in France over the past 20 years, there is nothing I love more than a Paris theme!

The cookie topper is two sugar cookies, iced with royal icing and hand-painted with food colouring, then glued together with a bamboo skewer as the pick. I was nervous about delivering that, but Royal icing never disappoints in terms of being rock solid once dried!

IMAG1197The cake is covered in marshmallow fondant, and the sketches are all done in food colouring, which had to be done as close to the time of delivery as possible.

I absolutely loved making this cake – it is by far one of my favourite cakes, but I should mention that the design is not original – I did copy it from another cake designer.  Quel beau gateaux!
